A beautifully turned 19th century wood and brass optometer. A similar piece is seen on page 165 of Elisabeth Bennion’s book Antique Medical Instruments.

The eyepiece is held to one eye and the disc is moved by hand until it comes into focus at which point the required correction for visual acuity is read from the main stem.
