The otophone is similar in design to the Globe phone and also has a metal diaphragm, but this hearing aid was made by Meyrowitz a New York optician and instrument maker. It was patented by him in in 1887.
It has been well preserved in its original box and aided by a leather earpiece protector which on the inside advertises his four New York premises as well as stores in London and Paris. There were two models and this is the smaller 1B model measuring 7 x 7 x 4.5 cm.
