Bossi Cervical Dilator by Guiseppe Opezzo

This instrument dates to 1880 and was used to dilate the cervix in labour. As the wing nut was turned the dilation of the cervix could be measured on the scale.

It never caught on is it would often cause the cervix to tear. The piece is in mint condition and is a very fine example. The Italian maker’s mark on the screw handle is Guiseppe Opezzo
