A silver intracervical pessary in its silk and velvet lined material covered case.
These intracervical pessaries were used in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century for contraception. They were made from a range of different materials, silver in this case may by virtue of its antibacterial properties have reduced the incidence of infection which was more common with the wishbone pessaries left in situ.
