A rare and beautifully constructed antique direct pressure tourniquet by the French maker Henseling.
The direct pressure tourniquet had wider support arms and was bulkier than the more commonly seen Petit spiral tourniquet. The oval pad can be rotated through 360 degrees to apply pressure at different angles.
Henseling was an early 19th century surgical instrument maker of Bavarian origin, who worked in Strasbourg and Lyon before moving to Toulon.
