A urethral catheter made from rubber with an ivory neck in its leather case marked ‘Dr Ward Cousins capillary catheter for the treatment of retention’
A delightful little piece, small enough to have been carried in the pocket of a late 19th century physician. The attribution on the outside of the round fitted case is in gilt and also marked Maw Son and Thompson with their registered trade mark in gilt on the green silk lined lid, the catheter (long since vulcanised) resting on green velvet. Maw Son and Thompson would have been the makers and retailers in Dr Ward Cousins name.
