A quality hand made glass eye in a velvet lined metal container by F Ad Muller Sohne.

This well known company first started making eyes in the 1860 and moved to Wiesbaden in 1872 where are still in practice using virtually the same original techniques. The creation of an artificial eye is carried out in several steps, starting with the ocularist matching the eye colour with the patient.  The a hot glass tube is blown into the shape of an eye. The blood vessels are drawn by using thin coloured glass threads that are melted into the white of the eye and the process continues by further moulding the eye to the correct shape.
