A presentation quality bistoury (lithotome) cache. This instrument was used for the removal of bladder stones. The handle is finely carved in ivory and signed by Bonnels, a 19th century European medical instrument maker. The instrument was purchased in Brussels.

There is a graduated blue steeled mechanism on the handle which limits the opening of the blade. Both the handle and the tip of the instrument are ornately engraved and the instrument is in  fine condition throughout.
