A fine ivory nipple shield carved from a single piece of ivory.

The cross-hatching appearance is typical of elephant ivory. The piece has a good patina and dates to the late 18th or early 19th century. A near identical example in the Symons collection of the Royal College or Physicians of London is dated to 1810.
