A French Jobert de Lambelle speculum which was a modification of Recamier’s tin tubular speculum.
It may have had a polished interior which was said to aid visualization by the reflection of light along its walls. Signed Charrière on the handle. The circular body of the speculum is made in one piece from pewter (a tin lead alloy) which now has a dark and even patina throughout. The obturator is made from ebony.
