A pointed instrument used to perforate the foetal skull prior to collapsing in in case of arrested labour where the mother’s life was at risk.
The American Simpson’s perforators had scissor handles but this the English version with an articulated handle joint (similar to the European Naegele’s perforator) which locks the tip ensuring that the pointed ends stay firmly together while entering the skull. The handle has a spiral fluted design. Marked “Harris & Co Birmingham”.
